What are they painted on? Is that leather?
The paintings are on canvas that has been specially treated to look like leather and stretched on a ring measuring 27 inches in diameter. NO Animal Hides are Used.

What type of paint do you use?
The paintings are referred to as Mixed Media meaning that many types of media are used.

How do I clean the painting?
The painting can be lightly dusted with a feather duster or dry cloth. You can also use a blow dryer (no heat).

How do I clean the brass ring?
The brass ring can be shined up with a small amount of vinegar on a cotton ball. Use care not to get the canvas wet.

What are these? Are they drums?
These are hand painted, original, wildlife paintings intended to be hung on a wall, indoors only. They are not drums and are not intended to be beat upon.

No. These paintings are intended for indoor use only.

How long does it take to make one of those?
It is hard to give an amount of time for each painting. Each painting goes through several steps which include drying time. As one painting is drying I will be working on others and drying time varies with season and atmospheric conditions. I spend the Winter months just painting and preparing for the Summer and Fall Show Season. It takes about 6 months for me to complete enough paintings for my scheduled shows.

Do you take requests for wildlife subjects?
Each year I compile a list of requested animals. During the Winter months I concentrate on new designs and try to accomodate as many requests as possible. If you have a suggestion for an animal, you can email me at jackie@jackieflaten.com and I will do my best to add your suggestion to my gallery.

Will the painting fade if it is hung on a wall in direct sunlight?
No, the painting can be hung in direct sunlight without fading. I have several paintings that have hung for years and been subject to direct sunlight.

Do you make any paintings larger or smaller than 27 inches?
At this time I only have 27 inch paintings. I have occasionally done larger paintings (38 inches) but availability is limited.
